Developing creative contexts for language, literacy and learning across the curriculum

The Literacy Exchange: A national professional support network for 5-14 English language and literacy

The Literacy Exchange is a national network for local authority advisers and quality improvement officers, university staff involved in initial teacher education, school librarian organisations, literature and literacy organisations – indeed anyone with an interest in the development of 5-14 literacy and language in Scotland. We meet three times a year, around the country, for a day of sharing projects and research, information and ideas, issues and concerns. Presentations, speakers and group discussions relating to 5-14 English and literacy are interwoven with opportunities for informal networking over lunch and coffee, allowing professional connections, partnerships and support networks to develop.

The next meeting (Summer 2008) has the theme "Poets and poetry in the classroom" and the following meeting (Autumn 2008) will focus on the role of the local environment and local history in the language curriculum, linking in with the work of museums and galleries.

Day membership costs £45, including lunch and a day of presentations and sharing. Annual membership costs £120 for three meetings.
