Developing creative contexts for language, literacy and learning across the curriculum

Shakespeare Alive!
This is a practical, hands-on Shakespeare day for teachers who would like to bring Shakespeare’s texts to life for 9-14 yr olds. Strategies for dramatic exploration are coupled with a look at a rich array of reading and writing and language development opportunities that can stem from his plays. The approach is very much in keeping with the principles of A Curriculum for Excellence, using the text as a platform for a wide range of curriculum opportunities and creative learning in a variety of contexts which can be explored in depth over an extended period of time. Running in South Lanarkshire 2007-8.
Aims
  • To increase confidence teacher confidence when working with Shakespeare’s plays
  • To provide a range of practical and interactive approaches to Shakespeare’s texts
  • To explore how Shakespeare can be a catalyst for a wide range of language and cross-curricular learning opportunities

  • Warming up to Shakespeare
  • Storytelling with Shakespeare
  • Working with Shakespeare’s characters
  • Exploring Shakespeare’s language
  • Shakespeare as a springboard for a range of reading and writing opportunities
Additional information
This full day course is in part a drama workshop day where participants will be engaging in dramatic activities – please dress for comfort! The day will offer a range of practical experiences and provide resources to help teachers bring Shakespeare to life for their pupils.
